Thames Valley Police have agreed to introduce speed checks as a first step after St Clement’s Ward Lib-Dem campaigner Graham Jones called on the East Oxford Parliament to take action to reduce safety hazards in Rectory Road.

‘Since Dawson Street was closed to through traffic, Rectory Road has become much more of a rat-run, and residents are complaining about the speed of traffic,’ he said.

‘I saw a near-miss there myself a few days ago. A taxi was travelling very fast up Rectory Road where it bends to the right just as another vehicle was moving off from behind a line of parked cars.

‘I know that money is going to be tight, but could officers please report back to the Parliament about measures which could be taken.’
