Liberal Democrat campaigner for St Clements Ward, Dr Graham Jones, is urging voters to help create a fairer, more dynamic Britain and improve local services by backing Liberal Democrat candidates and policies in this year’s Parliamentary and Oxford City Council elections
‘I’m proud to be a Liberal Democrat because it is the party of fairness, community values, and freedom from the state,’ says Graham. ‘Leopards don’t change their spots. The Tories are still the party of privilege, and Labour the party of the dictatorial state. They may fight over the central ground, but their basic instincts will still determine how they act in goverment, whether in Westminster or locally in places like Oxford.
‘If you believe in individual freedom, fairer taxes, healthcare and education, returning power locally from Whitehall, and working with our European and world partners to tackle international issues, there’s only one party you can and should vote for – the Liberal Democrats.
‘In East Oxford we are very lucky to have an excellent Parliamentary candidate, Dr Steve Goddard, and a Member of the European Parliament, Catherine Bearder, and you can be sure you will have a Liberal Democrat candidate in St Clements Ward who is pledged, like them, to work hard for local people.
‘A final word about the Green Party. They were needed in the past, but their day is over. Now that their work is done and all three mainstream parties are committed to protecting the environment and combatting the effects of climate change, there is no point in wasting your vote on a small party which can not deliver radical policies for Oxford. It’s no surprise that support for the Green Party in Oxford is declining.’
