We have London house-prices on West Midland wages, mortgages costing half an average salary, pressure for student flats, lack of building land in Oxford. Yet still the neighbouring Conservative-run councils refuse to allow homes to be built.

‘With people living 12 to a semi, a couple and their children in a single room, we need to treat this like the emergency it is,’ says Graham. ‘The county council must show leadership.’
